DJs Lost Frequencies and Zonderling teamed up in 2017 to create the song Crazy. It’s a pop and EDM crossover hit that’s a lot of fun to hear. Most of the song is about the singer speaking to establishing a legacy with their music and how said legacy is difficult to create. Yet, it’s the chorus that sticks with me as a Christian. The lyrics can be reviewed here.
The chorus goes as follows:
“They can call me whatever they want / Call me crazy / You can call me whatever you want / But that won’t change me / I just don’t care what the world says / I’m gonna make it / They can call me whatever they want / So what if I am crazy? / Crazy”
Why does this resonate with me? Why does a chorus where they talk about being called crazy and not caring what the world thinks resonate with me?
Well, I believe in an Almighty and powerful God who resides in three distinct persons. I believe that God decided to reconcile man to Himself through the act of coming to Earth and dwelling among us in the flesh as Jesus, the son of a poor, unmarried couple from Nazareth. I believe that our Messiah lived among His people raised as the son of a carpenter. I believe he lived as an itinerant preacher for years teaching radical lessons. He taught that through the Lord you can fight your internal, sinful evils. He taught people to love everyone, radically, including those who hate us. He taught that lust was as bad as cheating on your spouse; hate as evil as murder. He taught that evil begins from within, not merely based on our actions. I believe that He was put to death on a cross and in so doing He bared the burden of the sins of all mankind. I believe that on the third day, Christ rose again proving a watching world that He was who He said He was. To those who are not also Christians, this sounds crazy.
Jesus was called mad by His own family (Mark 3:21, John 10:20). Paul is called mad when he relays the story of how he was saved by Christ (Acts 26). There is a long history of people believing what I believe being called crazy. From the outside looking in, Christianity looks super weird.
And that’s why I think this resonates with me. People can call me whatever they want for believing in Christ. They can call me crazy. But calling me names won’t change my faith. It won’t change what I believe. I don’t care what the world says about Jesus.
So what if by the world’s standards my views would be considered…crazy.
