Last year, I came forward with a list of my favorite things. These were products and the like which I wholeheartedly support/recommend for my readers. I still recommend heartily each of those products. This year, I’m doing an update. So, welcome to Matthew’s Favorite Things: 2017
ono Good Bowl Double (Website Link)
Earlier this year, I received an ono Good Bowl (Double) to try out for our cats. We have 4 of them. I reviewed the product here. Long story short? We love it. It cleans easily, it remains still on the ground, and it’s easy for our kids to help feed the cats. I highly recommend it in the double variety as it lets you have a split food/water set of bowls.
Mountain Dew Holiday Brew (Target)
Last year, I had to plug my all time favorite Mountain Dew variety – Livewire. This year? I’m here to plug one of my new favorites, the Seasonal Holiday Brew. You can check out my review of the product here. The mixture of standard Dew with Code Red gives hints of cherry without overpowering the overall flavor of the product. It’s a good product and I was surprisingly pleased with it.
Squatty Potty (Amazon)
The Squatty Potty was a product my wife and I got last Christmas during our family’s random gift exchange. Unexpected item. It is a small bench which tucks under your toilet that positions you…in a squat as you poop on the toilet. The idea being that this position helps make pooping easier. I’ll be honest, I was skeptical, but interested! Having it for a year now let me tell you – it works. Surprisingly well. I would especially recommend it for those who’ve had bowel issues in the past who need to avoid…hard pushing. We’ll leave it at that. Bottom line – yes, the Squatty Potty works.
Onyx EZ SiriusXM Radio (SiriusXM Website)
What makes the Onyx EZ SiriusXM radio better than using a built in radio in your car? The ability to bring your music with you. With this device and a home kit/speaker set I can listen to my SiriusXM radio stations at home or in the car. It’s great and, honestly, something I did not expect to enjoy as much as I do. Music without commercial interruption on a variety of very assorted stations has been a lot of fun.
Crunchyroll Subscription (Crunchyroll)
If you’ve read my site, followed me on Twitter, or seen where else I wrote (here and here), you know that I like anime. Crunchyroll is a great streaming service that has a lot of legally licensed anime. I’m talking great new shows like Sakura Quest to classics like Cardcaptor Sakura, to silly stuff I remember as a kid like the ridiculous American dub of Samurai Pizza Cats. It’s a treasure trove of great anime. In addition to the anime, it has a lot of solid manga and Japanese live-action drama content too which you an view on a variety of devices. If you enjoy anime and manga, check it out.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (Stream on Amazon Prime)
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is an Amazon Prime exclusive TV series from the minds that brought you Gilmore Girls. I hated that show, but my wife and I saw the ads for this show. It looked promising. My wife convinced me to watch it. We both loved it. Set in the late 1950s New York City, the show follows Miriam “Midge” Maisel as she deals with her husband leaving her and, unexpectedly, ends up finding herself in the role of stand up comic. It’s as much a character as it is period piece and presents a great group of characters well. I would highly recommend it – although, it is most certainly not for children and should be considered “R” rated for all intents and purposes.
All The Reese’s Candy! (Example from Amazon)
Seriously – I know I ended last year’s list with this, but come on. Peanut butter and chocolate is a divine combination, gifted to us measly humans by the Lord. Don’t like it? Give me all the candies then.
So, there it is. Some of my favorite things of 2017. Is my list ridiculous? Absolutely. Sound off on your thoughts in the comments below!
