Thanksgiving 2016

On this annual day of thanksgiving, I like to take inventory of all the things I am thankful for.

I am thankful for my son, Ryan. I am thankful that he is growing each and every day. I am thankful that he is inquisitive. I am thankful that he likes to read (most of the time). I am thankful that for the moments we can share both with shared hobbies (Pokemon, Yo-kai Watch, video games), but also when we can just share moments of quiet together. His thoughtfulness and tender heart brings me joy.

I am thankful for my oldest daughter, Gabriella. I am thankful for each passing day with that sassy little girl. I am thankful for her boldness to try new things. I am thankful for all the fun, silly, and crazy moments I get to share with her: reading to her at night, talking with her about music in the car, watching movies with her on my lap, running around in the yard with her. Her commentary on life brings me joy.

I am thankful for my twin toddlers, Penelope and Genevieve. I am thankful for their boldness. I am thankful for their love they show to each other and to my wife and I. I am thankful for their silly antics. I am thankful for those sweet moments when they are cuddly and want to be held. Their love of life, their love of each other (even after a good fight), is a joy to see.

I am thankful for all the moments with my children. The good. The cranky. The annoying. The loud. The quiet. The great.

I am thankful for my bride of over 9 years, Jennifer. I am thankful for her grace. I am thankful for her love. I am thankful for her selfless sense of giving, of which I wish I had more. I am thankful for her openness. I am thankful for all that she does in raising our children as a stay-at-home Mom. I am thankful for the joy she has brought me all these years as we have both grown together. I am thankful for when she calls me out for my own mistakes, even though I don’t always show it. I am thankful that the Lord brought her to me. She brings me joy.

I am thankful for my extended family; the ones I was born into, the ones who were adopted in, the ones I chose as friends, the ones who are fellow laborers in Christ, and the ones who I joined through marriage. I am thankful for the love they all show to me, my wife, and my children. I am thankful for all of the willingness to help sometimes at a moment’s notice. I am thankful for their comraderie, ideas, support, and love.

I am thankful for the silly media I enjoy – from video games to comics to movies to anime. I am thankful I have such easy access to such things.

I am thankful for the opportunities to write both here on my own site and at sites like Beneath the Tangles and Red Maryland. I am thankful for those who are willing and open to my quirky opinion. I am thankful for the friendships which grow from my experiences writing on both websites.

I am thankful of the freedoms bestowed upon me by my creator and enshrined in our Constitution. I am thankful I have a platform where I can spout about my views on everything. I am thankful for social media and it’s ability to connect us across all manner of borders. I am thankful for the over 3,000 people who find my weird mix of parenthood, Star Wars, music, anime, faith, and conservative politics interesting enough to follow on Twitter.

I am thankful for music. It’s beauty can inspire and speak to us in a way we can’t normally.

I am thankful for my job and my ability to provide for my family. I am thankful for supportive staff I work with who want me to be successful in what I do and want me to learn more to grow as an engineer.

I am thankful for the clothes on my back, shoes on my feet, and food in my belly. I am thankful for the basics of life which are provided for me.

Above all, I am thankful for my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I am thankful for the free gift of salvation through His sacrifice on the cross. I am thankful for His mercy and grace. I am thankful that despite me being the sinful villain in the story, He is still willing to save me from myself. I am thankful for Jesus.
